April 2020: project:HOMES

project:HOMES is a community development corporation dedicated to improving the quality of housing and living conditions for low-income, elderly and disabled residents by providing and maintaining safe, accessible and affordable homes. Their mission is “Improving lives by improving homes.” Since 1992, project:HOMES has been helping people in need in Central Virginia by building high quality, affordable homes and by making critical home repairs and improvements. They help low-income and elderly remain in their homes and comfortably age in place. They improve accessibility and safety in the homes of the disabled; and we help revitalize communities by building high-quality, energy efficient, affordable homes.

With 15 diverse programs in 3 divisions, the agency focuses on home health & safety, energy conservation and affordable housing production. Services reach 21 counties and 10 cities in Central Virginia and serve low-income families, seniors and disabled individuals of all ages. The agency serves residents who earn 80% or less of the Area Median Income. Last fiscal year, project:HOMES served 6,686 individuals in 2,852 households throughout Central Virginia. This included 2,334 Weatherization projects, 194 major home repair projects, 23 lead hazard control projects, 24 affordable single family homes sold, 142 wheelchair ramps built and installed and 511 minor home repair projects.
