Retro-commissioning Improves Energy Efficiency & Employee Wellbeing
With a workforce experiencing a poor work environment with the potential to negatively impact work quality, the Fort Belvoir Public Works team and the Army Corps of Engineers partnered with Clark Nexsen to investigate and make recommendations addressing both workplace comfort and energy use.
In Fort Belvoir’s Building 1465, retro-commissioning enabled our team to rapidly and cost effectively address the poor office environmental conditions impacting workers and causing the building to use energy inefficiently. Minor repairs and adjustments were identified to quickly create a more temperate work environment, and within our team’s first few days on site, grateful employees were emerging from their office space to thank us – sharing that for the first time in years, they felt comfortable.
Through operational testing of the building systems and gathering additional information about repairs and possible improvements, our team was able to make retro-commissioning recommendations to improve energy efficiency at a fraction of the originally scoped renovation budget.
