September 2022: PEG

PEG, LLC will begin its 25th year in business this coming November as a certified woman-owned, diverse energy efficiency, engineering, environmental, and management consulting firm operating principally in the Eastern and Central United States. PEG specializes in building energy performance, green building program compliance, building diagnostics, environmental and code compliance, thermal performance, HVAC design and operation, and third-party construction defect risk management. These capabilities have enabled PEG to lead in the application of national green building standards and demand-side energy efficiency protocols.

PEG operates as a design consultant and “boots on the ground” interim and continuous inspection agent, leading the way in the design, planning, verification, and real-world application of all aspects of sustainable construction. PEG provides expert consulting for all structure types, commercial and institutional, residential, multi-family, and mixed-use buildings. In addition to PEG’s expertise in building energy modeling (BEM), building information modeling (BIM), and third-party inspection and testing, PEG’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design team holds professional engineering licensure for all fifty states and specializes in high-performance HVAC design.

PEG’s Fairfax, Virginia Headquarters staff of ninety-five professionals supports more than one hundred field engineers and dozens of sub-contractor partner firms. PEG is a founding member of the Leading Raters of America with nearly 200,000 HERS Rated Homes to its credit as a RESNET Provider and Rating Organization.

Key Energy Efficiency Related Work

In 2022 PEG was again awarded the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence. PEG will certify more than 8,000 ENERGY STAR new homes this year and is a high-volume participant in the Dominion Power demand side residential new construction incentive program that requires participating homes to be ENERGY STAR Certified.

PEG Senior Staff worked to lobby Congress to advocate for a badly needed revision of the §45L Federal Tax Credit for Energy Efficient Housing. This revision includes the Inflation Reduction Act that passed both the Senate and the House and was signed into law by President Biden. The qualifier for this $2,500 tax credit is now ENERGY STAR Certification and is in effect for the next ten years. They expect a significant increase in participation now for Virginia home builders to build above-code homes.

PEG continues to manage Fannie Mae’s Green Mortgage-Backed Security program. This program also requires participating builders and lenders to qualify with ENERGY STAR Certification. PEG supports this important ESG (Environmental, Societal, and Governance) investment program, ESG analysis, and reporting for many National, Regional, and Virginia-based home building companies with Earth Academy Certified staff.
